Het Nieuwe Instituut works with numerous international organizations on activities to put the spotlights on Dutch creative industries. The International Materials and Design Network is an example of Het Nieuwe Instituut's internationalization programma and enables knowledge exchange on innovation in materials, design and sustainability. Below an overview of activities which maintains and where possible strengthens the international network of institutes with the aim of encouraging exchange of expertise and skills.
International Materials & Design Network
Het Nieuwe Instituut founded the International Materials & Design Network to organize collaborative projects with international partner organisations, to enable knowledge exchange on innovation in materials, design and sustainability and to support talented Dutch designers to expand their international networks
Spatial composition in Red, Blue and Yellow at Cannes Film Festival
Het Nieuwe Instituut, EYE Filmmuseum and the Netherlands Film Fund have joined forces to curate the Dutch pavilion and offer Dutch design talent a podium during the Cannes Film Festival. Studio Sabine Marcelis has been invited to respond to the centenary of De Stijl in the form of a spatial design that will serve as a meeting place for the international film industry.
New Material Award during Salone del Mobile
In Atelier Clerici vindt van 4 tot en met 9 april de feestelijke presentatie van de New Material Award plaats. Het Nieuwe Instituut viert de ontwerpen van 18 makers tijdens de internationale designweek in Milaan.
New Material Award 2016
Eighteen designers have been selected for the New Material Award 2016 and was presented during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. This biennial award challenges artists and designers to apply and develop sustainable materials and innovative technologies.
Round N Around - São Paulo
Round N Around is a collaborative research project between the University of Applied Sciences in Amsterdam (HVA citizen data lab), the University of São Paulo and Het Nieuwe Instituut. With the support of local biker communities, the project aims to explore the technologies developed for the measurement and analysis of data on the user experience of bike paths in the city of São Paulo. Cyclists, researchers and public managers contributed to an ecology and encourage the use of bike lanes in the city.
Architecture dialogues the Netherlands Flanders
This autumn Het Nieuwe Instituut is initiating a series of dialogues in which young architects from the Netherlands and Flanders discuss their design practice in relation to four themes. The dialogues take place within the framework of the exhibition ‘Maatwerk – Massarbeit’ at the Deutsches Architekturmuseum, for which Het Nieuwe Instituut has provided material on loan.

DOMESTIC AFFAIRS and I AM INDUSTRY
The exhibition DOMESTIC AFFAIRS, organized by Bureau Europa, Dutch Design Exchange and the Institute of Relevant Studies, create an opportunity to hear a new voice of Dutch Design. With I AM INDUSTRY, Het Nieuwe Instituut combines new insights from design and e-culture, inviting visitors to make extraordinary things with new accessible technologies.
